Samakhya Sustainable Alternatives (Pvt Ltd) works to bolster the livelihoods, crafts, and overall quality of life of artisans and pastoralists in remote regions of India.
We live in an inter-connected world, where no singular entity can possess the mandate or claim to solve problems affecting millions of living beings on the planet. Samakhya Sustainable Alternatives is a for-profit social enterprise, part of a larger network of community focussed institutions, playing a crucial role of ensuring sustainable livelihoods for thousands of artisans and pastoralists. Our goal is to promote sustainability and create long-term solutions that preserve traditional techniques and materials while ensuring a fair and equitable livelihood for communities struggling in difficult geographies.
Through our work, we are trying to revive the inter-dependent rural ecosystems where the artisans, farmers, pastoralists and the consumer support each other, enabling a circular economy model. We strongly believe that we have to look in our cultural past to find solutions for the future.
Our organization achieves this through investing in textile value chains, innovative design, cutting-edge technologies, and expanding market access, all driven by principles of sustainability, circular economy, inclusivity, and value for money. Our partnership invites an opportunity to improve the human condition, particularly for women, in the most extreme regions.
“Pastoralism is an intelligent production system with no equal. It takes uncertainty as an input to clothe and feed humans and nurture agricultural fields”.
Samakhya Sustainable Alternatives (Pvt Ltd) works to bolster the livelihoods, crafts, and overall quality of life of artisans and pastoralists in remote regions of India. Our aim is to provide sustainable solutions for textile, built, and packaging industries by leveraging traditional artisanry and materials. We strive to embrace and develop generational knowledge in rural value chains, focusing on sustainable outcomes.
At Samakhya, we are committed to upholding the principles of a circular economy and providing cost-effective alternatives. Through our initiatives with artisans, pastoralists, and producer groups in remote locations across India we hope to build a strong alternative textile ecosystem.
